How do I register?

• Competitors may register online through the registration link on the tournament page. Registration is not complete until the required information and payment have been submitted.

• Can I register at the door?

• There will be no door registration.

What information do I need to register?

• You will need the competitor’s name, age, date of birth, rank, martial arts school, instructor, contact information, and selected divisions.

How are divisions organized?

• Divisions are organized by age, rank, gender, and event. Divisions may be combined or divided depending on the number of registered competitors.

Which rank should I select?

• Select the competitor’s current rank as of the tournament date. If the competitor is promoted after registering, contact the tournament organizer before the registration deadline.

Which age division should I enter?

• Competitors should generally enter the division matching their age on the tournament date.

Can beginners compete?

• Yes! Tournaments can be a great experience for beginners. Competitors are grouped by rank and age whenever registration numbers permit.

What events can I enter?

Available events may include:

• Traditional forms

• Creative or open forms

• Traditional weapons

• Creative or open weapons

• Point sparring

• Continuous sparring

• Breaking

• Team competition

Check the specific tournament page because not every event may be offered at every tournament.

Can I compete in more than one event?

• Yes. Competitors may register for multiple events if they meet the requirements and pay the applicable entry fees.

What should competitors wear?

• Competitors should wear a clean martial arts uniform appropriate to their school or style. T-shirts, jewelry, watches, and unsafe accessories may not be permitted during competition.

What sparring equipment is required?

• Required equipment may include:

• Headgear

• Mouthguard

• Hand protection

• Foot protection

• Chest or rib protection

• Groin protection for male competitors

• All equipment should fit properly and be in safe condition. Please review the tournament’s official equipment rules.

Is protective equipment provided?

• Competitors are responsible for bringing their own properly fitting protective equipment.

Are face shields required?

• Requirements may vary by age group and tournament rules. Check the event’s sparring regulations before arriving.

Can competitors wear glasses?

• Glasses may be allowed for forms but could be prohibited during sparring for safety reasons. Sports goggles may be permitted if approved by tournament officials.

Are weapons supplied by the tournament?

• No. Competitors entering a weapons division should bring their own competition-safe weapon.

Are real or sharpened weapons allowed?

• No. Sharp, live, or otherwise unsafe weapons are not permitted.

What happens if I miss my division?

• Competitors should remain near their assigned ring and listen for announcements. A competitor who misses repeated calls may be disqualified from that division without a refund.

Can a parent coach a child?

• Parents may encourage competitors from the spectator area. 

Can competitors earn league points?

• Competitors may earn points toward DMV Sport Karate League standings based on placement and participation. 

Can I change or add a division after registering?

• Changes may be allowed before the registration deadline. Additional fees may apply when adding a division.

Are registration fees refundable?

• Registration fees are nonrefundable. The tournament may offer a credit or transfer in limited circumstances.
